Feminists in Beijing
Earlier in May, on assignment for M Le Magazine du Monde, I spent several days photographing women in Beijing who are creating new spaces of solidarity, independence, and empowerment.
The story explores a generation of Chinese women challenging traditional expectations around marriage, motherhood, and gender roles, while building communities that support personal freedom, professional ambition, and self-expression. From women-only bookstores and cultural spaces to climbing gyms and entrepreneurial networks, these places have become meeting points where women share experiences, support one another, and redefine their identities in contemporary China.
