I first came to Wuhan after the city had endured one of the strictest lockdowns in the world.

I expected to find a city marked by fear, grief and isolation. Instead, when I arrived months later, everyday life had largely returned to normal.

I began photographing the young people I met in bars, clubs and through social media — people who had experienced an extraordinary moment in their city’s history, but were now trying to simply move forward.

What interested me was not trying to make an objective picture of Wuhan, but showing the city from my own perspective: the people I met, the places they lived, their relationships and the strange feeling of a city moving on after something that had changed the world.
